Our Services

Total Women's Care

We provide complete care for women of all ages. We can administer your wellness and preventive care checkups, maternity, and gynecologic care. Our CNMs were nurses prior to becoming independent providers, so you are and will always be at the heart of our care.

Maternity

Pregnancy and birth with a midwife is an experience every woman deserves.  We individualize your care in a safe, respectful, holistic environment. We are also hospital-based midwives, so we can offer our exceptional maternity services to all women.

Gynecology

Our CNM’s gentle, non-judgmental approach to addressing your unique health needs creates a safe, trusted environment in which to learn about your body. In addition to preventative care, we can assist with any gynecological concern you have no matter your age.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine

MFM Specialists are highly trained to address high-risk pregnancies. Because we have partnered with Valley Perinatal, Arizona’s leading MFM group, you can be assured the best possible outcome for you and your baby no matter your risks.

Total Women’s Care

Team-up with our Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) and stay at the center of your healthcare no matter the need!

Our CNMs work with you to optimize the health of your mind, body, and soul. While we are known for our exceptional pregnancy and birth care, we also provide gynecologic services for all of your healthcare needs. Our midwives offer counseling for family planning, including birth control, natural family planning, learning about your menstrual cycle, or trying to become pregnant. We understand your needs may go beyond family planning, so our midwives are able to provide care for all stages of life. We can address your concerns with breasts, hormones, hygiene, and other issues unique to women. As CNMs we are able to perform breast exams, paps, annual exams, STD testing and biopsies, collect bloodwork, and refer to other providers as needed.

Maternity Services

Choosing a provider during pregnancy is one of the most important decisions you will make as an expecting parent. Our midwives offer superior, personalized, high-touch care that can’t be matched in Southern Arizona. We recognize and respect your body’s ability to grow and birth your baby, and we are here to provide additional support and care as you need it. As hospital-based midwives, we provide all of the nurturing support midwives are known for along with the peace of mind that comes with immediate access to emergency services should the need arise.

When planning a family you may find that you have questions about how your health might affect a future pregnancy. At a preconception visit your midwife will thoroughly review your health history and discuss how you can best prepare to have the healthiest pregnancy possible. For women with a very complicated history or history of genetic issues we may recommend you have a preconception visit with one of our Maternal Fetal Medicine physician colleagues.
Our prenatal care visits are designed to be an interactive, family-centered experience. We encourage partners and other family members to attend, and we have children’s toys and books in all of our visit rooms. You will have the opportunity to get to know each midwife during your pregnancy. Each visit includes time to answer your questions and fully explain any recommended tests or procedures. Ultrasounds are performed in our office by highly skilled Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, and photos are sent immediately to your phone for sharing.
One of the key points that sets our midwives apart is their hands-on presence during your labor and birth. The midwives at Desert Blossom Women’s Care are skilled at providing support for women desiring low intervention, medication-free births. We also fully support your decision to use epidural anesthesia for pain relief in labor. We encourage walking, hydrotherapy, intermittent fetal monitoring, and self-directed pushing for appropriate women. We strongly support VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and VBA2C (vaginal birth after 2 cesareans) birth.
Together with our collaborating physicians, we are able to offer family-centered cesarean birth to those women who need it. Even if you are planning a cesarean birth you can still receive the high quality, personalized care of our nurse-midwives! Our midwives have received specialty training as Cesarean First Assists, which means they assist the obstetrician during your cesarean section. Ask us about gentle cesareans!
Our midwives closely evaluate your emotional and physical adjustment to motherhood, and we provide support and care when you need it. Each new mother experiences the postpartum period differently, and we strive to customize your care to meet your needs. From family planning to postpartum mood disorder treatment, Desert Blossom Women’s Care CNMs provide the same excellent care after your baby arrives that you came to love during your pregnancy.
Our midwives appreciate the support that is needed for a new mother to have a successful breastfeeding experience. We advocate for the “Golden Hour” of uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby at birth, as well as continued skin-to-skin throughout your hospital stay. We are also skilled at assessing and treating breastfeeding problems such as mastitis.

High-Risk Obstetrics

Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM)

MFM Specialists (also called Perinatologists) play a vital role in achieving the best outcomes for pregnancies that demand extra special care. While many pregnancies proceed normally through delivery, approximately 10% involve some type of complication. Women with health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, multiple gestations, or women who become pregnant later in life are often referred to an MFM Specialist.

MFM Specialists are Ob/Gyns who have completed an additional 2-3 years of education and clinical experience to become the advisors, advocates, and experts for women with a high-risk pregnancy. This extra preparation ensures they master complex procedures and can effectively consult and co-manage patients to achieve the best possible outcome no matter how complicated the pregnancy is.

Valley Perinatal Partnership

Desert Blossom has partnered with Valley Perinatal to address the unique needs of mothers with high-risk pregnancies. With support from Valley Perinatal, Desert Blossom offers patients fetal therapy, obstetric ultrasound, genetic counseling, in-utero procedures and cesarean section delivery. Our team approach has proven to lead to better outcomes for high-risk expectant mothers and their babies, including higher gestational ages and decreased NICU stays. High-risk expectant mothers get the benefits of personalized and attentive care from their certified nurse-midwife and the expertise and advanced care from an MFM specialist.
