Background

Misty is a certified nurse-midwife and the founder of Desert Blossom Midwifery. She is a long-time resident of Sierra Vista, who grew up in Sierra Vista and graduated from Buena High School. She has always had a passion for helping others by working in health care. She began as a registered nurse graduating in 1992. She received her Associates Degree from Mesa Community College in 1992, and her Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration from Wayland Baptist University in 2001 while working on the labor and delivery unit. She later advanced her passion for women’s health care when she received her Master’s Degree in Midwifery from the Institute of Philadelphia University in 2012.

After gaining experience through many years of nursing and as a new graduate midwife (advanced practice nurse) working for a busy medical practice, Misty progressed to gain the expertise she needed to open Desert Blossom Midwifery. Her goal was to provide women with a personalized, patient-focused experience. “I feel privileged,” Misty said,

“to participate in the care, planning, and management of women during pregnancy, birth, and all stages of life.”

Desert Blossom Women’s Care is the carefully planned expansion of Misty’s midwifery practice. Her partnership with Valley Perinatal, Arizona’s leading maternal-fetal medicine practice enables Desert Blossom to provide complete women’s care, including care for women experiencing high- risk pregnancies and other health-related issues.

Misty’s approach is patient-centered. She works with each patient’s condition, history, and wishes to provide rewarding and healthy results. She sees her role with women and their families as a partnership designed to ensure a healthy and fulfilling birth experience. “The experience of childbirth is very personal to every expectant mother,” Misty said. “Her birth should be something she remembers fondly, it should also be an event she was an active

participant in.”

Misty is a Registered Nurse certified in inpatient obstetrics. She is certified in electronic fetal monitoring, and advanced fetal monitoring and inpatient obstetrics. Misty is also certified as a midwife surgical first assist, allowing her to maintain continentality of care even when a surgical intervention arises. Her extensive experience includes working as afloat LPN and sta RN at Mesa Lutheran Hospital for two years, as sta RN for four years, and Charge RN in
the Obstetrics Unit for four years at Sierra Vista Regional Health Care, and as a Certi ed Nurse Midwife at Saguaro Women’s Care Pregnancy Center.

Misty welcomes new patients with her personal style. She extends her caring approach, serving women of all ages with routine gynecological, birth control options, family planning, menopause transition, hormone replacement and more services.

Misty is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives, the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.
