Becky Rivera

Certified Nurse Midwife

Master Of Science In Nursing and Midwifery December 2016 – University of Cincinnati Bachelor Of Science in Nursing December 2005 – The University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ
Becky is a long time Arizona resident and a valuable member of Desert Blossom Women’s Care team. She is a certified nurse-midwife who chose to specialize in women’s care to empower women to learn about themselves, their bodies, and their health. She received her Bachelor’s degree in the Science of Nursing from the University of Arizona in 2005, and her Master’s degree in the Science of Nursing and Midwifery from the University of Cincinnati in 2016.
“I fell in love with obstetrics as a young girl,” Becky said, “when I first noticed the beauty of pregnancy and birth and remain in awe of this miracle today.”
Her previous experience includes working as a charge and staff nurse in labor and delivery at the Northwest Medical Center in Tucson as she pursued her passion of becoming a certified nurse-midwife. As a student nurse-midwife, Becky worked at El Rio Congress Midwives, El Rio Ob/ Gyn, and the University of Arizona Women’s Health Clinic. She received her nurse-midwife certification in 2017 while working for MomDoc Midwives.
“I feel most accomplished,” Becky said, “when a woman I have cared for reaches her goals, whether that’s an unmedicated birth, a successful vaginal birth after a cesarean, a working epidural for birth, a repeat cesarean section, or finding the right birth control.”  Recognizing herself as more than a health- care provider, Becky sees her role as a midwife as a way to join women on their journeys of self-discovery. She works to create an environment of support and knowledge where her patients feel secure.
“I welcome questions,” Becky said, “it is how our patients can establish a secure, trusting, and nurturing a relationship with their midwife and other care providers.” Her patient’s wishes are a priority to Becky who recognizes the easy path is not always the best one. When consulting with her patients, she strongly encourages them to choose the path with the best outcome for mother and child, even if it is more difficult.
Becky is certified as a First Assist at Cesarean Delivery, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation. Neonatal resuscitation skills are essential for health-care providers involved in the delivery of newborns. Resuscitation certification requires excellent assessment skills and a grounded understanding of both the mother and her infant’s physiology.
As dedicated to her patients as she is, Becky enjoys her time off. The splendor of Arizona provides her with opportunities to do what she most enjoys including spending time with her family and hiking. “If I am lucky enough to capture pictures on the journey,” she said, “even better!”
